The FIT Show was also the ideal location for CAB to launch its Fabricator/Installer Training Days which have been developed to demonstrate basic competency. The initiative, which sees CAB partnering with GQA Qualifications and Total Support Training, involves classroom based sessions which incorporate three NVQ Level 2 Units. Candidates who are successfully assessed can then apply for a CAB Skills Card and will also receive a certificate from GQA confirming the knowledge requirements of the three units. The Card is linked to the GQA’s web based system providing proof of identification and access to training and qualification records by using the QR code.
CAB has developed the Training Days after much discussion with the members and the aluminium in building supply chain. The aim is to not only to encourage a culture of training within our sector but also to link other assessed CAB training to the Skills Card. Candidates can complete the rest of the NVQ Units at a later date including practical competency, without the need to repeat Units already covered.
The initial Training Days will cover the following Units in both the Fabrication and Installation courses:
• Maintain Health and Safety in the Fenestration Installation Working Environment – FI1 / FGSS1
• Locate, Transport, Handle and Position Materials and Components in the Fenestration Installation – FI13 / FGSS4
Courses will then be customised for either Fabrication or Installation with either:
• Install Window and Doors – FI8
Or
• Fabricate Glass Framing/Supporting Systems by Joining – FGSS8
In addition there will also be some discussion around Curtain Wall and Surveying as appropriate to each course to support the understanding of fabricators and installers. Initial Training Days are now available on 26th and 27th July to CAB members and will take place at locations in, Birmingham and London.
