CAB is a member of the Construction Products Association who contribute towards a daily construction COVID-19 industry briefing which is produced in collaboration between the Association for Consultancy & Engineering, Build UK, Chartered Institute of Building, CITB, Civil Engineering Contractors Association, Federation of Master Builders, and Institution of Civil Engineers. The daily briefings are designed to share consistent guidance and advice with the industry.

Build UK Coronavirus Update 21 May Includes some excellent examples of Main Contractor safe operating procedures

Site Operating Procedures v.4 dated 18 May 2020. The relatively minor updates are confirmed as:

  • Removal of the requirement for face to face contact to be kept to 15 minutes or less
  • The section on PPE now links to the latest Government guidance on face coverings
  • References to one-way systems and the reconfiguration of seating and tables and an update on portable toilets
  • The requirement to share risk assessments with the workforce
  • Clarification on when to travel to work, as set out in the Government’s COVID-19 Recovery Strategy
  • Updated links and wording on social distancing.

Build UK Coronavirus Update 18 May

New COVID-19 – Site safety checklists, risk assessment tool and toolbox talk available from the CITB – Information has been produced in collaboration with the Construction Leadership Council and supported by Build UK.  The checklist and forms aim to help ensure site operating procedures during COVID-19 are clear and accessible to employees (14 May)

Construction Leadership Council Proposals for the future of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme 7 May 2020

The Construction Leadership Council have highlighted a video from AJ Morrisoe & Sons explaining Covid-19 Health and Safety advice . The video looks specifically at advice on 5 areas: Travel; Welfare; Working On Site; Logistics and meetings and briefings.

Construction Leadership Council Covid-19 Contractual Best Practice 7 May 2020 Government has today backed the CLC Guidance. CAB will be discussing this briefly with Geraldine Fleming, Driver Trett during the next CAB Contracts seminar on Preparing Claims on 21 May.

To implement the Government’s social distancing recommendation the Construction Leadership Council has now published Site Operating Procedures Version 3 (SOP V3), with strong recommendations that these procedures are implemented by every operational construction site and factory. Industry feedback – Government support: the Construction Industry Coronavirus Task Force has prepared a short survey to anonymously capture feedback on use and experiences of business trying to access support provided by HMG. Please take two minutes to fill out the survey. Complete the survey.

Industry feedback – employment: the CLC is interested to understand the latest information on levels of activity and employment in the industry. To support this work, please can you take 2 minutes to fill out the following survey. Complete the survey.

This Letter of Authorisation template can be used by construction product manufacturers and suppliers to provide the evidence that they require to be able to continue their essential work. Workers and those making deliveries to site in the manufacturing and supply of construction products, who can follow the Guidance on Social Distancing from Public Health England at work or who are considered critical workers can use this. Company’s are encouraged to include their logo on the letter template.

Advice on Temporary Suspension of Sites – this guidance will help ensure that any closures can be achieved as safely as possible, avoiding potential issues while the site is not active.

Coronavirus Employment Schemes Guidance: The CLC, supported by the Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE), has produced (1 Apr 20) a guidance note on “Coronavirus Employment Schemes” – including a suggested process for managing furlough in relation to the other guidance such as SOP or critical works list. This includes a comprehensive FAQs list on construction specific queries. 

The CLC has published more information and advice on how you might carry out government guidance and additional useful information for firms can be accessed on BuildUK’s website.
