Technology Centre designed and constructed a centrepiece training facility at the Tunnelling and Underground Construction Academy (TUCA).
Based in Ilford the project comprises a 40m long tunnel simulator that provides a realistic environment for Crossrail to train the 3500 operatives needed to construct the new central London rail tunnels and other infrastructure projects over the next few years.
TUCA is the only soft-ground tunnelling training facility in Europe.
The project was delivered on time (within a very tight programme), on budget and with zero accidents.
There have already been high profile visits to the £13m academy including David Cameron and HRH The Duke of York.
