A word from Our Team to Your Team

As we wave goodbye to 2020 later this month we should spare a thought for those colleagues who have gone above and beyond what has been expected of them. It has been a tough year but many have worked tirelessly and risen to an unprecedented challenge in these modern times to try and bring about some form of normality. The CAB Team, for their part, have continued to field calls and support from our membership and reached out with regular webinars to engage and inform.

Now that there is light at the end of the tunnel, we can once again begin to plan physical events that will be launched early in the New Year. We very much look forward to meeting colleagues old and new, to discuss past successes and challenges that lie ahead.

Whilst 2021 will also be a tough year, especially with the effects of Brexit to contend with for many of our members, there has never been a more important time to have the support of an Association to help guide you, as well as listening and forming Industry positions to bring about change. It is your Association, make the most of it!

On behalf of myself, the Board and the CAB Team we would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas in these constrained times and to thank you for your continued support of your Association.

Please feel free to forward this month’s newsletter to your colleagues and ask them to sign up for a copy by following this link.

Brexit

Whilst it is unlikely that a UK ‘deal’ is now to be struck with the EU, we brace ourselves for changes in 2021, the problem we have is that there are still a lot of ‘unknowns’ at this time.

We do know that product CE marking will change with a UKCA mark and that there will be a new trading relationship with the EU from the 1st January 2021. As an Association we are closely following what unfolds and will keep you informed. Our next copy of the CAB technical newsletter ‘Insight’ is due out soon and covers the latest position on this quickly moving situation.

The CAB CSCS Card Scheme

You will no doubt have seen press coverage of our launch of a training scheme for curtain wall installers. This is an industry wide training scheme and not limited to just CAB Members. Curtain wall installers will begin with the CAB one day ‘Curtain Walling Essential Knowledge’ Course prior to attending Systems Company Training on specific systems. Run by CAB in conjunction with the GQA, the scheme is open to all UK Installers. Systems Companies who are not currently GQA Training Centres can have their training information reviewed by the GQA so that it can contribute to the successful completion of a CSCS skills card.

Further information will follow from CAB shortly, there is also more information on the CAB Website and any enquires can be made to Julie at the CAB office. One of the first webinars in 2021 will offered on the CSCS skills card training, details of which will be sent out very soon.

A Window Into Aluminium

CAB are delighted to announce that they are working with ‘Glass News’ to launch a new monthly Ezine to replace ‘Aluminium in Architecture’ which sadly issued its last publication in March this year. ‘A Window Into Aluminium’ will offer a fresh new appearance, is aimed at supporting the supply chain for both Residential and Commercial Fenestration. The launch copy will be due out in early 2021 and CAB members will continue to get their company news published for free within the publication and reduced rates for advertising banners.

Initial circulation is expected to be in excess of 30,000 recipients from across the Home Improvement and Construction Industry and I hope you will support the publication in making it a success to spread the work of the CAB in support of Aluminium in Construction.

Please contact the following should you wish to appear in the first issue:

Building Our Skills

Trying to encourage more people into the Fenestration Industry, Building Our Skills (BOS) is an organisation providing support to help tackle the Fenestration Industrys’ widening skills gap. CAB welcome this approach and are supporting the organisations activities.

BOS was established two years ago to promote activities which support Industry employers or individuals in acknowledging the need to introduce new and young talent into the Industry with the overall long-term aim of eliminating the Fenestration Industry skills gap. More information is available on their website.

CRASH Donation

CAB continue to support CRASH and at this time of year donate to help this very worthy cause.  CRASH channels support through the Construction Industry to undertake maintenance and repair of buildings for day centres, hostels and ‘move-on’ accommodation for the homeless.
