A Word from Our Team to Your Team

As we enter into another lockdown in an attempt to slow down the transmittance of the virulent Covid-19 virus it seems that Construction will be spared this time round and correspondingly many of our members businesses. The team at CAB have agreed they will continue to work from the offices in Stonehouse so it will be business as usual, with support just a phone call, or email away.

We are currently working to extend our reach into members businesses so that we can support you and your colleagues to have a better understanding what your needs will be going into a new and uncertain year ahead. Please feel free to forward this month’s newsletter to your colleagues and ask them to sign up for a copy by following this link.

Events for 2020

Thank you to all who have attended our popular webinars over the last few weeks, it is good to see how we can reach out and support our members despite the difficulties meeting in person. Please complete the feedback forms so that we can continue to improve and widen the support that these webinars provide.

One forthcoming webinar that should not be missed is the ‘Economics’ webinar where Prof. Noble Francis, Economics Director of the Construction Products Association (CPA) and Tom Hall, Economics Director, Barbour ABI & AMA will offer scenarios and forecasts on how the future markets will be affected by Brexit and Covid-19. The webinar is being held via GoToMeeting at 12 noon on Wednesday 25 November. Please reserve your place(s) by emailing Julie on julie.harley@c-a-b.org.uk.

Webinars are free for members to attend and are limited to one hour, making the presentations relevant and practical for all. Each webinar encourages attendees to pose questions to the speakers for a short Q&A which follows the presentations.

State of the Market Survey

CAB members answer a short questionnaire every quarter which is kept in strictest confidence and passed to the CPA who collate the information from members and then benchmark the data against the wider Construction Market. Quarter three results have already been sent out to members and whilst they do show that the sector as a whole has been negatively affected by the pandemic, some areas, such as home improvement have done relatively well.

On balance, as the questions are based on feedback from the previous month with increases or decreases, the Fenestration Sector once again has fared better through the pandemic so far than  other areas of the Construction Industry.

The CPA report and CAB’s executive summary will be available on the CAB website or available from CAB, should you wish to secure a copy, please contact Jessica on jessica.dean@c-a-b.org.uk

CAB Training

We are close to rolling out the GQA/CAB approved course, a one day ‘Curtain Walling Essential Knowledge’ course and have been working closely with the CAB Training Committee, GQA and the initial two independent training centres. This is something that all systems company members  need to be aware of as training on their curtain wall systems will need to be assessed by the GQA so that the CSCS card holder can claim training has been given and assessed. This scheme is aimed at reducing defects in curtain wall installation by ensuring better installation understanding.

A Training Committee Meeting is set for Tuesday 10th November via GoToMeeting, should you , or a colleague, wish to join the committee and attend, please email Julie on julie.harley@c-a-b.org.uk, further information is also available on the CAB Website.

CAB Member Benefits

There are a wide range of benefits that are available to members and I wanted to highlight two which I would encourage you to use when required:

You have free 24/7 access to Croner’s helpline offering business support on HR & Employment Law, Health and Safety, Commercial Legal Support and Tax Matters.

Access to the Joint Taxation Committee (JTC) which represents major trade federations operating in Construction as a means of jointly lobbying on tax issues that affect firms in the Industry.

Details of both services  are on the CAB website once you have logged in with your membership password, or details are available through calling the CAB office.

Events for 2021

We are working on a webinar programme for the first quarter next year which we hope will offer support for you and your colleagues. It will be announced in the  next few weeks. but please let us know if there are any subjects you would like us to cover in addition to the webinars we have recently run.

We are hopeful that in July we will be able to hold our very popular AGM, Golf Day and Dinner which attracts over 200 members and guests. We plan to follow this later in the year with our rescheduled Royal Armouries Members’ Meeting which many of you signed up for in early 2020, which sadly had to be postponed due to the pandemic.
